Thomas Cummins is an artist and photographer born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. After being accepted into the University of Texas Architecture program, Mr. Cummins moved to Austin where he also studied Studio Art and Art History. During the course of his undergraduate studies, he was accepted to study art abroad at Central St. Martin's College and Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, England as well as in Mexico at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende. He earned a B.A. as well as a B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin while focusing mainly on printmaking and metals.

After obtaining his bachelor's degrees, Cummins moved to Chicago to illustrate magazines. He was awarded a scholarship to the interdisciplinary graduate program at Maine College of Art which enabled him to work with local Chicago teachers while also studying in Portland, Maine. After receiving a Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Critical Theory, Cummins returned to his hometown of San Antonio to create large-format lightboxes of his photographs with a grant from the Artist Foundation. More recently, Cummins has been a Resident Fellow at Yaddo, Vermont Studio Center, Byrdcliffe, and Kimmel Harding Nelson and, through an ArtPace travel grant, he went to Copenhagen, Denmark to investigate the home of Kierkegaard's Existentialism in order to document the social structures from which this philosophy of the individual originally developed. He is currently preparing for a show at ArtPace in May as well as finishing a Salud-Arte Public Art Commission for the University Health System.
