Stephanie Skura

Art Matters Grant

Stephanie Skura has explored boundaries of dance, performance & collaborative process for thirty years.  One of her abiding interests is in dance as an expression of inner states - "how to capture the flight of mind, yet be exact" (Virginia Woolf).  She and her company have toured in 30 of the United States & 14 countries. A graduate with an MFA of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in Dance, she received one of the first "Bessie" New York Dance & Performance Awards for Choreographic Achievement. She's been awarded numerous grants from government & private organizations, & commissions from companies & soloists worldwide. A 'radical & perpetual innovator', dedicated to creative empowerment and individual diversity, she's an active teacher and mentor in the worlds of dance & theater, inspiring artists, students & audiences.  She's a regular guest artist at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, Container12 in Italy, & Soul Centre in New Zealand, choreographing, directing, teaching & mentoring, Her most recent work integrates a radical approach to language and the voice with an out-of-the-box approach to movement.
