Shawn Spangler graduated with a MFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, and now resides in Philadelphia as a current Resident Artist at The Clay Studio, teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Rutgers in Camden, NJ.
Spangler's functional objects focuses on the wheel; thrown and altered made with porcelain. His forms can be complex, are clearly articulated, and are oftentimes created through the combination of multiple parts. He states "My work is a record of observations, an amalgamated map of the world I reflect upon. I have found producing pottery as a kind of play; a regenerative act ripe with reverence, revealing the human hands enduring connection to creativity."
