For the last 10 years I have tried to color outside the lines of what people expect when they think of puppets and puppeteers. I've performed thousands of street shows, created the popular underground TV puppet show, Dante's Place. I've produced/performed commissioned works for the stage, such as a Bunraku puppetry performance of Steinbecks "The Pearl" funded by UC Fullerton and the John Steinbeck society. The Death Show a puppet opera about life's final bow, funded in part by the City of Austin's Cultural arts dept And my personal favorite My all Puppet Burlesque show A night at Miss Mimi's funded by a performance art grant from the amazing folks at the Creative Capital Foundation.
In 2007 we formed the Non Profit theater troupe, Geppetto Dreams Puppet Company.
With the hope of passing my art on to the next generation, teaching free workshops to both children and adults on puppet design construction and performance, creating an award winning workshop on designing puppets from recyclable and found items, and two summer internship programs for at risk teens. The first was an hour long performance developed by the kids entitled "Tribe of the One." It dealt the acceptance of cultural diversity. The second was a stop motion film festival of ghost stories that they wrote filmed and edited themselves both of these shows culminated in free shows for the entire city at the Long Center for Performing Arts and Austin's Alamo Draft House. Unfortunately in 2009 we, like many others of our king were hit hard by the economy and forced to close the Art centers doors. Down but not out I continue to perform in hopes of opening those doors again one day.
