"When a viewer looks at my paintings, they see the process by which I created them: my sensibilities, aesthetic and truth. The notion and interpretation of vulnerability is primary in my work. My paintings are a profoundly feminist statement: the paintings seek to invite the female viewer to, on the most intimate, personal level, transcend the barriers of sexism and exclusion. I mean this in larger, political and social terms, but I also consider my work an invitation to women to nurture their spirits, to look inside of themselves, to affirm their strengths and heal old wounds. A lofty goal, I realize, but I am attempting to give voice to a kind of feminine emotional capacity and breadth of experience. I want women who view my work to find sustenance and power. My paintings do not always provide me with answers but they do ask questions, help me to navigate the uncharted parts of myself, and assist in giving perspective on my past."
