Michael Bramwell

Michael Bramwell is an American visual artist born in the post-war Bronx and raised in Harlem. He studied Psychology at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Master of Arts from Columbia University. He is an alumnus of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture,  MoMA P.S.1 National Studio Program and the Bronx Museum of the Arts AIM Program. Bramwell's work was shown at: Neuberger Museum of Art, MoMA  P.S. 1, Jack Tilton Gallery, Jersey City Museum, International Print Center New York and the New Museum.  He is supported by fellowships from: Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Joan Mitchell Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, Asian Cultural Council, Rema Hort Mann Foundation, Art Matters, Creative Time and Franklin Furnace. His work is included in the collections of New School University, Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture, Omi International and the Jersey City Museum. Bramwell was awarded a 2011 fellowship in African American studies, from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium, for his work: Rough Trade: Representations of Slavery in Contemporary Visual Art.
