Mark Foster Gage

For the past decade architect, writer and Yale Professor Mark Foster Gage has been at the forefront of redefining architecture and design through computational and material innovation, and is a leading voice in his generation for theorizing these revolutionary developments.  

Mr. Gage's design work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Deutsches Architektur Zentrum in Berlin.  Recently, his archtiectural firm, Gage / Clemenceau Architects was selected as one of the architecture firms to represent the United States in the 2010 Beijing International Biennale.  Gage / Clemenceau Architects has won numerous awards including being named an "Avant Guardians" of architecture, by Surface Magazine in 2010, and was nominated as one of thirteen firms, internationally, for the inaugural Ordos Prize in Architecture in 2009.  Gage / Clemenceau Architects was also a winner of the New York Architectural League's Young Architects Forum in 2008, was a finalist for the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program in 2007, and received the AIA New Practices Award, by the American Institute of Architect's New York Chapter in 2006. The work of Gage / Clemenceau Architects has been featured in media and press venues including the New York Times, USA Today, Vogue, Wired, Surface and Fox News, as well as in numerous publications internationally. 

In addition to his work as a principal of Gage / Clemenceau Architects, Mr. Gage also serves as the Assistant Dean and an Associate Professor at the Yale University School of Architecture, where he has taught since 2001. He has also taught at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, The Institute for the Study of Classical Architecture, and in 2007 he led the "Think Tank on Computational Aesthetics" at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. Mark Foster Gage's writings have been published in numerous academic and popular publications including Log, the Journal of Architectural Education, A+U, Volume, Fulcrum, Perspecta, and AD.  Mr. Gage was also a guest editor, with Florencia Pita, for the Fall 2009 issue of Log, #17.   He was a co-editor of the book The Millennium House and recently completed, with Greg Lynn, a new book entitled Composites, Software and Surfaces: Towards a High Performance Architecture. His next book, currently in progress, is Aesthetic Theory: Essential Texts for Architecture and Design.
