Replete with references to the ancient frescoes and mosaics of the Etruscans, Romans and Byzantines, Indian and Persian miniatures, Lucy Fradkin's alluring paintings capture a timeless moment through a contemporary eye. She is a self-taught artist whose practice is uniquely informed by art history, the vanishing art of hand-painted signage and a variety of sacred and folk arts.
Fradkin has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues which include the Smithsonian Museum National Portrait Gallery, The Brooklyn Museum, The Queens Museum, PS 1 Museum, The Islip Museum, The Brattleboro Museum, The American Academy in Rome, The Biennale di Arte Contemporanea di Porto Ercole, Italia and the Nancy Margolis Gallery in the Chelsea Art District of New York City.
She has been the recipient of prestigious awards including a Pollock-Krasner Grant, an Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Individual Support Grant and two New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships. Fradkin's work has been reviewed in numerous publications including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Art New England, Exibart and Siglo 21.
