Karen Kandel

USA Ziporyn Fellow, 2008

Karen Kandel is a performer with more than 30 years of experience, mostly in experimental theater. Currently an Artistic Associate with Mabou Mines, she has worked with esteemed artists such as JoAnne Akalaitis, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anne Bogart, Lee Breuer, Philip Glass, Ruth Maleczech, Peter Sellars, Ong Keng Sen, Anna Deavere Smith and Basil Twist, among others. She has received multiple awards for her performance in Mabou Mines' Peter & Wendy. Since 2000, Karen has been exploring writing and visual art. She continues to study traditional art forms in Japan including: Noh, Gidayu (storytelling for bunraku puppet theatre) and most recently, paper making. M.L.
