Author: Julia Barbosa Landois with Erik Sanden, Culo de Oro/The Golden Ass

Julia Barbosa Landois is a performance, installation, and video artist based in San Antonio, Texas.  Her work examines sex, spirituality, and the quest for literal and metaphorical cleanliness.  Since receiving her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007, Landois' work has been shown throughout the United States, as well as in Europe and Latin America.  Her awards include a Media Arts Grant from the Artist Foundation of San Antonio, an Artpace Travel Grant, and artist residencies at the Santa Fe Art Institute and Lademoen Kunsterverksteder in Norway.

Culo de Oro/The Golden Ass (2011) explored pleasure-seeking and prostitution on the Texas/Mexico border, mixing dialogue from interviews and sex tourism websites with popular songs whose lyrics intersect unexpectedly with the text.  Landois performed with musician Erik Sanden.  Photo courtesy Walley Films.
