Jason Cortlund studied film and writing at University of Oregon and earned a Master's in screenwriting at University of Texas. He was 1998 postgraduate fellow at the James Michener Center for Writers.  Since 1996, he has collaborated on films, videos, and installations with Julia Halperin. Their work has shown at festivals, museums, and arts institutions around the world. Their short "Interstate (part one)" was featured in the Journal of Short Film, Volume 6.   Cortlund's work has been honored by Texas Filmmaker's Production Fund, Texas Commission on the Arts, Texas Filmmakers Showcase, City of Austin Cultural Contracts, Hershey Foundation, Pacific Northwest Writer's Association,  Centrum Institute, Gotham in Progress, and San Francisco Film Society. 

 

He also serves as the news editor for the New York Mycological Society.
