WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM, a documentary film

MI

I am seeking funds in the amount of $5000 to complete post production/editing on the documentary feature film WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM.

WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM tells the story of childhood friends who join the National Guard when they graduate from their rural high school because they need the money for college.  Thus begins their 4-year journey from teenagers stuck in their rural Northern Michigan town, to soldiers looking for roadside bombs in Afghanistan, to 23-year-old combat veterans trying to start their lives again.

I began this film four years ago when I returned to my hometown to explore making a film there.  I wound up focusing on the group of high school friends in the local National Guard unit, and their families.  I eventually embedded with their unit during their yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.  At its heart it is a film about growing up, and about how a town and its people are affected by a far-off war, WHERE SOLDIERS COME FROM is an intimate look at the young men who fight our wars, the communities and families they come from, and how they change over the course of several years.

Over the past four years, I have been lucky enough to be funded through a few grants, and an ITVS licensing agreement; now that it’s down to the final months, to finish the project I need support to fund key staff including the editor and co-producer.  A gift from you now will allow me to finish the film.
