About the Film
Rapture Us is a short film about a devoted Christian named Toby who after waking up to the disappearance of his sick mother is believed to be left behind in an event known as The Rapture, when all of the christians on earth are called up to heaven to usher the last remaining years of the earth. Toby encounters a man named Mac underneath his floorboards, raised from the dead who was also left behind and he convinces him that he has the answer to get into heaven: he must break all 10 of God's commandments to get his attention.
Director's Statement
Nearly five years ago I wrote, directed and starred in my first narrative film called What happened to my brother? a story about the tragic attempted suicide of a young kid's older brother and how that forever changed their relationship. Now I'm hoping to explore similarly psychological territory but instead of brooding family drama I want to explore the subject of faith, the supernatural in a humorous, magical surrealist setting. I get asked a lot if Rapture Us is a christian film and I have to say it's not. It's a film that happens to be about a Christian. I want to look at a phenomena that many Christians believe will happen that ushers the end of the world and the aftermath of someone who believes he'll be apart of it more than anyone being left out of that experience and learning to cope with the loss of his mother and how to live without guilt and be open to a different point of view of how the world works. I'm not interested in making a religious film, I'm interested in making an original story that's like nothing produced before and give it engaging characters, emotional tension, rich atmosphere and surrealist imagery with an ending you won't expect and will give you something to talk about after the credits roll.
What We Need
We have raised about four thousand dollars for Rapture Us but filmmaking is expensive and that barely covers half our budget. We're still not able to afford props, makeup for our resurrected character mac, special effects rigs for the levitation scenes, location rentals, wardrobe, three meals a day for a crew of about 15 people, gas for all the vehicles as they travel from location to location, costs of festival submissions, promotions and marketing the film and post production services such as color correction, sound mixing, and musical score.
Where We Are At
Currently we have cast our lead role Toby with Quinn Gasaway who is best remembered for his memorable role in the Coen Brothers' film O' Brother Where Art Thou and Mac will be played by writer and director Levi Agee who hopes to bring a comedic bittersweet quality to the anti-zombie role. We are also locking down locations such as a Church, Cemetery, and Grocery store and taking applications for crew positions.
We're trying to raise just $7,500 which might sound like a lot but is quite modest in the world of filmmaking and anything you can contribute will go along way.
Our minimum goal here on USA Projects is just $1,785 and will directly support some of the most essential elements of costuming and make up for our shoot. Note: we must reach our minimum goal by our deadline in order to receive any funds. Support beyond that minimum to our maximum goal of $7,500 will help cover a fuller spectrum of the aforementioned production costs.
Please check out our fantastic perks listed on our page and think of your donation as a collaboration as we all work together in making this unique story a reality.
