Pig Iron Anthology of Plays
- Theater Arts
Pig Iron Theatre Company, a physical theatre ensemble based in Philadelphia, wishes to publish an anthology of original plays selected from our repertory of 26 performance works. Artifacts of our unusual ensemble-based process, these playscripts span almost the entire 15 years of Pig Iron's history, and the proposed book as a whole will give a window into Pig Iron's work as an ensemble, broaden Pig Iron's reach as a company, allow other theatres and universities to study Pig Iron, and for the first time allow other theater artists to produce their own versions of these Pig Iron playscripts.
Plays in the anthology may include CHEKHOV LIZARDBRAIN (OBIE winner 2008), HELL MEETS HENRY HALFWAY (OBIE winner 2005), SHUT EYE (our collaboration with Joseph Chaikin), and GENTLEMEN VOLUNTEERS. Fittingly, the publication of these plays will coincide with the opening of the Pig Iron School of Advanced Performance Training (APT) in 2011-2012.
53rd State Press, a small press that specializes in performance writing, will publish this anthology. 53rd State has published the texts of such notable experimental performers as Nature Theater of Oklahoma and choreographer Miguel Gutierrez.
Funds will be used to prepare copy for publication; to market the anthology (Pig Iron's first) to new audiences; and to pre-order advance copies for Pig Iron's own distribution channels and students.
Pig Iron was founded in 1995 by USA Artists Knight Fellows and Pew Fellows Quinn Bauriedel, Dan Rothenberg, and Dito van Reigersberg.
